2.8 CRD Oil Cooler

2.8 CRD Oil Cooler
I came to do an oil change and new filters on my 2.8 today and after struggling to find the oil filter, which is located at the back of the engine, I split the aluminium housing that the filter screws into. It's only a hairline crack but oil now sprays out when under pressure. After doing a bit of research it appears that the aluminium housing is actually an oil cooler but I don't see any way of removing it. Does anybody have any experience of this?
I found a new replacement on eBay but it costs mega bucks!

Looks like first screw filter off then use Hex Key to screw oil cooler off.

Was going to ask you Alan is the oil cooler you got like the one on Fleebay or the one in my pic from a 2004 2.5CRD edition per the manual. I notice my pic has a bolt holding on the cooler at one end and the allen key fitting through oil flow on tother.

Hi Goggsy, The oil cooler for the 2.8 is the same as the one on eBay. It is held on to the engine block with just the tube that the filter screws onto. You need a 12mm Allen Key to undo it. (probably the same on yours) and there is a thin rubber ring that locates on the back face of the alloy cooler.

I had the 2.5 version fitted to my 2.8
So I had to change the cooling pipes slightly to get the new one to fit.
