Default 2005 T/C is completley dead

I was driving the vehicle when the battery light came on. right after that I heard a whining sound. a cpl minutes later there was a burning smell. not a rubber burning smell but an electrical smell. I got 9 miles down the road to my apt and the vehicle just shut down completely. no power, no ring, ding or buzz, no lights, no power at all... had the alt tested at oreillys and it didnt even spin on there machine and the employee said that the alt is no good cause no power runs thru it. I put jumper cables directly on to the vans batt cables and still nothing.
