2005 T&C shudder
My 2005 Town and Country with 3.8L has a shudder at idle which does not appear to be there during acceleration. I have changed the plugs, wires, coil pack, and intake manifold gaskets. I have also verified that there are no vacuum leaks. I read in the manual that a leaking EGR valve might be causing the problem but I discovered that I don't have an EGR valve on this van.
Anyone have any thoughts?

You don't have EGR? That's the metal pipe that comes up and feeds into the intake.
Also watch if it happens when the A/C compressor engages. This can cause a slight stumble, which is also then accompanied by the noisy belt drive/idler that all these vans seem to be plagued by.

Yea, it sounds crazy but, where the EGR is supposed to mount, on the end of the head, right above the alternator, there is a blank plate. Also, where the tube is supposed to connect to the intake plenum, right behind the throttle valve, the screw holes are there but the hole has never cut out. The shudder is almost like a misfire but the rpm doesn't seem to be effected, at least not so the tach can measure it. It doesn't start until the engine warms up some and gets worse the warmer it gets. Doesn't appear to be associated with the A/C at all. I am beginning to think it has something to do with a signal the PCM is getting from one of the components but I have no idea what and no way, that I know of to find out.

I have similar problem and no egr valve. Plugs, wires, coil all test ok. Cleaned throttle body and replaced the idle air control valve. Still has a shutter at stop light, low idle.
Used injector cleaner in 2 takes of gas.
Any ideas?

found the fix
Okay, so I decided to investigate and tore apart the upper end of my engine. I discovered that the lifter rollers and cam lobes were extremely pitted; to the point that I don't know how they were even working at all. I replaced the cam and lifters as well as the oil pump and timing chain (since I was already in there and it made sense). Problem solved! Van is running as smooth as ever. I did the work without pulling the engine out which I do not recommend but I didn't have much choice. Hope this helps.
