Default 2006 T&C A/C Issue

Hi All

I've read for a while trying to find another post with the same issue and came up empty. So here it goes.

I have a 2006 Chrysler T&C Touring, 3.8L. The A/C stopped blowing cold air out of the front vents. Both sets of rear vents blow cold air just fine. There is air blowing out of the front vents, it's just not cold. Any suggestions for diagnosing the problem would greatly appreciated.

My own common sense would tell me that a vent door is not closing or opening to allow cold air to come through.

Thank you for the help.

Yes, there are dual air controls.

Then the likely of 2 separate motors or doors going bad at the same time is like 1 million to 1 shop maybe more.
More then likely u have low freon.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I'll try a recharge first. I figured since cold air was still coming out of the back, that the freon was fine.

I will keep you posted!

I also think a climate door issue. The front evaporator does have a separate expansion valve, but unlikely that failed or got clogged. If you remove the cabin air filter (if you have one), I recall that you can feel the front evaporator and insure it is getting cold and also that it isn't icing up, plus check the tubes in the engine bay.

I replaced the AC compressor & other parts this summer on my 2002 T&C w/ rear AC and electronic climate controls. My wife claims I screwed up by getting a rebuilt compressor off ebay and by switching to Duracool. I'll take her comments more seriously when she gets an engineering degree like me. It works great normally, but doesn't feel real cold when >95 F outside (common here). However, my rear AC blows cold, and I feel real cold air from one section of the front vents. The compressor pressures check out fine (25 psi inlet, 110 psi outlet). Hence, I suspect the climate doors are letting in hot outside air, even though I have "recirc" selected. It could even be letting the heater run for all I know. Anyway, it works good enough for now, at least compared with the effort to dig into the climate controls.

that not right U would no cool air at all. U want or need 45low to 300high side with being 95 outside.

I think 300 psi would quickly wear out the compressor. As I said, the rear AC blows cold and I feel very cold air from one section of the front vents. Doesn't that mean the evaporator is getting cold? I said that I am using Duracool, which is a HC refrigerant (u no read post). It operates at pressures similar to Freon, and much lower than R-134A (soon to be outlawed). The pressures depend on the ambient temperature. 25/110 psi was at ~80 F ambient. I recall up to 40/200 psi when ~95 F outside, but I had more refrigerant in then too.

Initially, when charging, I wasn't measuring enough low-side, so kept adding cans until I reached 6 cans (6 oz ea) vs 3 cans suggested, and it still wasn't cool enough. I then hooked up my full gage set and saw ~250 psi outlet, but erratic as it sometimes dropped to 100 psi with the clutch constantly engaged. Could have been a sticky valve plate in the compressor, but I suspected too much oil. I had added the book value of 13 oz (recall, for rear AC), which was 1/2 qt and seemed excessive. Perhaps with my mineral oil it should be less than factory PAG oil. I vented refrigerant (high side), which removed oil also, and it worked better. I repeated a week later after I measured 220 psi. I think excess oil was inhibiting heat transfer. I am satisfied now, though my wife is hard to please. I caught the refrigerant in a cup. I figured I would play with the liquid HC. I poured it on the concrete and it started bubbling. Lit it and it burned, but no flash like many fear. About 1/2 of the volume was left, which must have been oil. I am sure some cans of hair spray are more dangerous. BTW, the EPA can't get you for venting HC, or they would have to fuss after everyone eating a burrito.
