Default 2008 T&C TPMS issue. Now you see it, now you don't

Hi guys,

This problem has happened twice now randomly over the past 3 weeks. While driving on the highway, the tire symbol dash light appeared with an alert ding sound. Then the 4 tire pressure values appeared in the driver information center on the dash showing the symbol "--" at one tire location. Sequentially then, after a 10 or 15 second interval each, the remaining tire locations would convert to the -- symbol until they all showed tire pressure values as --. The driver info center also stated something to the effect of "TPMS needs repair (?). After about 20-30 mins more of driving, the light would go out and the tire pressure values returned. As if nothing ever happened. Any thoughts on what's going on or how to diagnose this further would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Only way I know of to track it down would be an advanced doy code scan(usually a dealer scanner) to see what the BCM is doing. as the TPMS is run thru that. Have you checked the tire pressures to proper inflation "cold"?

Yeah adjusted the tire pressures cold to 36 psi (tire placard recommendation) all around before we took our trip from MA to PA and the problem happened while on this trip during our highway driving segments. When the TPMS became functional again after both incidents, it showed the pressures all within 0-1 psi difference amongst all four corners. Not sure if it may mean something regarding 'learned memory" of the TPMS system, but about a week before we left we noticed the pressure on one corner was approx 5 or 6 psi lower than the other three tires. When we had the tires rotated before we left, the value moved with the low tire so we knew the system was still identifying the low tire and that it was working correctly. Is it possible that with that one low tire that it signaled something to the system causing this "malfunction" and no it will just take time for the system to "unlearn" the problem? It hasn't errored since that time and that was now 2 weeks ago.
