£600 for the parts only....are you sure? Sounds like a quote to do the job too!

Having said that, the parts are not cheap. I bought a chrysler cam belt kit (belt, 2 idler pulleys and gasket) from a chrysler shop on ebay for £140. They could supply a tensioner for £80 and a water pump is another £170.

I'd say unless it has failed, replacing a water pump on a 2008 car as part of a cam belt change is overkill unless it has done galactic miles.

Just as an aside, I believe the interval on the 2006 onwards diesels is 100,000 miles or 8 years....what mileage has it done?

I've also found www.vmdieselspecialist.com/ very helpful in the past.

Are you doing the job yourself?

Good. The water pump is a pig of a job on the CRD.
