Default 96 trans

has anyone ever heard of a wire adapter that makes you be able to run a 97-2000 trans in a 96? Im having a problem with the rebuilder has had it for 2 months and he keeps telling me he needs to find a new case!!!!! said he has it and now says he will call me when he gets it done.... being a real dick. now found a trans guy that says he has wire adapters that lets you use a newer trans....... just trying to figure it out. I can find a new trans really easy!!!!

I have several adapters, it's a cable about 1' long. now your years are WRONG. 1996-1998 have the same round pin connector, 1999-2007 have flat pin connector. However the adapter cable that is available is for 1998+ vans to accept 1996-1998 trans.

he needs a new case because you broke yours? if you use a 1999+ case, the hole for the senders is bigger than 96-98, there's a seal in the rebuild kits for this. However there isn't for using the bigger sender in the smaller hole, so what I do is RTV the sender into the hole and it works fine.

So clarify what the problem is?

ok how does the case brake? it drove in rev. and first gear hit sec. and slipped and went into limp mode. he has had the trans for 2 months and dont figure I will ever get it. so I am looking for a replacement. and the early build 96 are a PITA to find. so if I can find a newer trans and use that wire adapter I can get it running....

Oh, it's you again... the only way the trans case breaks is when the differential explodes. You're the guy that has one of 1000 1996 vans with the old style dual sensors for the shifter. You'll probably NEVER find one of these cases. So tell you what, bring your trans to WI and I'll rebuild it and you can FINALLY get it back on the road.

I just spent about 10 min looking at the schematics between the old dual plug and new single plug. I could easily rewire the old dual to the new single... if you can read a schematic, you to could make the change fairly easily. But then you're trans guy probably will say it can't be done because it seems he don't have a clue. I'm wondering if he is just looking around to replace the trans instead of rebuilding yours because he's totally clueless.
