Default Servicing the trans 71k too late?

I bought my van at 60k and now its at 71k miles. Is that too late to change the trans fluid? I hear that if you wait till after 60k it will cause more harm the good is this true? Ive had many trans blow out on me in the past i want to prevent that from happening this time.
Thanks ahead of time to all that reply.

yeah, it's very true. Mechanics will tell you it's a good idea to flush every 12k miles or so, but I reccomend you never ever getting your tranny flushed. after a while, things fall off and fuse together and hold the thing together. when you flush it, you're taking away from the integrity of the mass of moving metal. So if you aven't had it flushed every 12k miles thus far, don't touch it. every vehicle I have ever seen with the tranny flushed at any point during it's life, started slipping and causing all kinds of problems. I wouldn't do it man.

So what about just changing it? not a flush just a change? Also if i dont change it at all how many miles should i exspect to get out of it?

eh, don't worry about your transmission at all... lol... you'll get more milage out of that thing if you just leave it alone... and if you want to do a "change" then go ahead, it won't hurt anything as bad as a flush will... and it may actually be good for the damn thing if you only change it but like I said, if you don't like driving your vehicle, go ahead and flush it... If you're going to change it, while you're at it, check and make sure there's no metal shavings or any crap like that in there...
