96 Voyager HVAC problem
Hello all,
Our 96 Voyager HVAC seems to be working intermittently.
Some days, only heat works and others just AC.
We were having problems with an actuator for the ducts. The airflow wouldn't change from defrost to panel. I found the motor, tapped on it and haven't had a problem with airflow since.
????? Are these problems related????
????? Does that actuator only control the airflow ducts or does it also control the change from AC to Heat????
If I don't get this figured out soon it's going to be a long winter out in the dog house for me!
Thanks

RE: 96 Voyager HVAC problem
Your heater has three doors in it:
The "Mode" door directs where the air comes out: floor ducts, panel ducts or defrost, or some combination.
The "Blend" door controls the temperature of the air coming out, it mixed hot air from the heater core with cool air.
The "recirc" door determines where the air comes from, either from outside or inside the car.
Sounds like you had a problem with your mode door actuator, and yes those two things you complained of were related.
The blend door is separate from the mode door, and you should be able to get any temperature regardless of whether it comes out of the panel ducts or the floor ducts. Hot air in the face is not particularly comfortable, but it's better than freezing.
THe heater will always be able to overwhelm the A/C and provide warm air, even if the A/C somehow got stuck and wouldn't turn off, provided the blend door is working properly.
