A sure sign of the clockspring being broken is that the horn (and if fitted cruise control) won't work either. In the UK Chrysler replaces the clockspring free under a safety based lifetime warranty. Not sure about the rest of the world.

hi, I have a 2001 grand voyager (uk spec), my airbag light kept coming on randomly even though the cruise control and radio controls worked fine. I had to take the steering wheel off in order to get the part number off the squib and once I got it I put it back on and it has worked fine since! very strange I know but four months on is still working fine and I have covered about 4000 miles since. Chrysler uk dealer wanted £200 ($300ish) so I ordered a copied part and it was delivered to me in England for $50 all in! buy a cheap mopar squib and do the job yourself, will take 30 mins start to finish!!
