Still haven't had the chance my friend, rubbish weather at the weekend and next I'm away on hols so I'm going to leave it for now.
I've not had them all illuminate up again, but have had on two occasions where I stopped on a hill (at cold, about 2 minutes from starting cold on a morning) and it wouldn't engage into gear (D was illuminated) and just revved until it 'found' the gear and off I went, no further problems.

So when I get back I'll try and find a dry day and get to it! Thanks as always for the offer on a read :-)

I've also done a little parts darts, bought the autobox fluid and filter (genuine Mopar ATF4) so going to do that too (Peace of mind too, since I don't know if/when it's been done before) and I've got a long trip to EuroDisney in October so want to make sure we're in top shape.
did you ever find the solution? I know this is nearly 10 years old now, however, I’ve got a similar issue

Hi All,
Just thought I'd add my fix perhaps someone has the same issue - I've had the boxes around the letters on and off since purchasing the car a few months ago and they would start working once I started and selected a gear . I also had an additional intermittent parasitic drain (which I initially thought was the wing mirror side light as that too lit up on an occasion).
I checked connections, cleaned and re-seated all the earthing straps, but the drain was still there and after a lot of diagnosing, testing and fuse pulling, it turns out it's the radio at fault, (3.5amp draw whilst the vehicle is supposed to be shutdown) I have also noticed since disconnection of the radio (fuse removed) I've yet to have a flat battery and I no longer get the boxes around the letters when starting up.

Hopefully this may shed some light on your issue and where to start looking.
