Alternator?
I have a 2014 T & C , Not sure what spec it is as there are no markings but I suspect touring, My wife drives it every day and 3 days ago she called me to say that the battery light had come on, when i got home from work I tightened up the terminals and the light went out , but the next day it came on again , this time she got stuck and had to leave the car, when i got home i tried to start the car but it was dead, I took the battery to AutoZone , who pronounced it dead and gave me a new battery , the light stayed on for a bit then went out, today the light is back on , i took a quick look at it and it seems like there is a lot of oil on the front of the engine, now I'm thinking that the alternator might be soaked in oil and might be shorted out, my question is where is the oil coming from , could it be a blown head gasket? not sure where to start other than stripping the top of the engine , but I don't have another car(that my wife can drive) and don't want to take it out of commission for any extended period of time, what is at the front of the engine just above the ac compressor?
I suspect the alternator may be failing. The battery light indicates charging issues such as under/over voltage. A good code reader should be able to pull the charging system diagnostic codes. Suggest you have the charging system tested at AutoZone or another auto parts store.
i figured that but was concerned about the oil leak being the cause , i only just started to smell oil when i picked the car up the other day , my wife didn't notice the smell so i'm not sure how long its been going on
