Default Aux heating

Evening,

As the new boy I have just purchased a 2.8 crd grand voyager ltd xs 2004, now I'm still learning what every button and light does and means, but I have noticed the aux heating light coming on and staying on for long periods of time, is this normal or am I doing something wrong? As I know it uses some fuel so don't want to be wasting it!!!!

I also get a single beep once the car is started, again can see no reason or it?

Many thanks

Loz

Hi Loz

Ref Aux Cabin Heater.
Same for me. Used to stay on for 90mins of driving. Changed the Thermostat and now operating normally (engine upto temp after 10mins). The old stat was clearly stuck open (tested by blowing through it).
You will see many posts on here about that.
Check on ebay, I bought one from a guy in Lativa for £65

Default Aux Heating.

Hi Voyager,
Quite co-incitental, just received my new thermostat today from Latvia which took about 10 days to arrive. E-Bay as per Travelmad.
My cars a 2.5 CRD 03 LTD and per my thread on her the heater gave up the ghost and spilled the coolant.
Running at 1/4 temp on gauge and if weather holds out for an outside fitment might get it fitted this weakend.
Says on here you have to remove the wiper/tray to get to it, but I can see it and if I remove intake air pipework should be plenty room, aided with a mirror.

Hi Goggs

On a 2.8 CRD 2005 taking the wiper tray out is a doddle, just need a puller for the wiper arms, takes 5 mins then stacks of room.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, I do find that mine is running at 1/4 temperature mot of the time have not seen it at the 1/2 point yet! Wasn't sure if this was in usual, is there any other signs that the stat has packed up? Will this show if I have diagnostic test done do you think?

Cheers

Hi s6

Fairly sure your thermostat is stuck open. Mine did this (quite suddenly) and wouldn't go higher than about 1/4 on the temp guage, with aux heater on most/all of the time.

With new themostat, runs at (very slightly under) 1/2 on guage.

Theres a good thread on here how to change thermostat from I think Booke23. Someone also posted about the two different types of thermostat and which fits what model.

Thanks again for the quick responses so where would be the best and cheapest place to get a new or recon thermostat?

This is probably the cheapest you will get, brand new and OEM quality
Chrysler Voyager 2.5 CRD, 2.8 CRD Thermostat | eBay

Definately take the wiper tray out as the bolts a pain to get to.
You dont need to drain the whole system since the thermostat sits quite high on the engine.

Ok, so I have been doing some town driving today and the temperature gauge slowly finds it way up to just under half way, the aux light has been on all day, spoke to a friend of mine who said that this could be normal for how cold it is, should it really take so long to get up to temperature? And s the engine parts from a voyager the same as a grand voyager?

Thanks

Even in cold weather the engine should get to its normal running temp.
My aux is generally off after 5-10mins.

And yes the part is the same for voyager or Grand
