Default clock springs do go

Clock springs do go. I had 2 different Chrysler minivans where the clock spring had to be replaced. That said, when the clock spring goes, the horn will not work, so if your horn works then it's probably not the clock spring. And no, you can't replace it yourself as it involves the airbag.

Not necessarily true.... It usually ends up that way...but it doesnt have to....

Clockspring handles horn, airbag, cruise control, and on later models it can also handle "Wheel Mounted Radio Controls" or "Driver Option Menus in the EVIC.

Any of these Items could fail due to a faulty clockspring.....But it isnt Mandatory that all of them be inoperative to condemn a C/S.

As for doing it yourself.......Ummmm..... That could go either way....

It isnt that difficult of a Task, and Plenty of Home Brewed mechanics have successfully changed them.

That said, Even the most seasoned professional technician is Not Immune To the BROKEN NOSE when the bag goes off in your face....

"Trust Me...It HURTS..."

I stand corrected as far as the horn is concerned. But when I said you can't change the C/S yourself what I meant that yes you can do it but the odds of setting off the air bag it very great and not worth doing it yourself because of the cost in money and injury. Anything can be a do it yourself job but in many situations they really aren't. I mean I can change the struts myself but I would never actually try it because of the danger involved for example.
