Clunking noise till warmed up
Have a 2000 T&C AWD,120k miles, I'm the origional owner,dealer maintaind.
It has devloped a kind of clunking noise after starting up that goes away if engine speed is raised over about 1200 rpm while warming up and goes away altogether after it has been running for a few minuites.
Varies with engine speed, gets louder with AC on, also if rotating steeing wheel. Also changes if put into gear. It appears to becoming from ther drivers side, not from the passenger side with the serpintine belt.
The noise first appeareda few daysafter havingthe dealer do a considerable amount of service: Theyreplaced the AC evaportor & hoses, lubed & oil, replaced upper & lower radiator hoses & t-stat, replaced tranny oil & filter, and replaced left outer tierod end.
Any ideas before taking it back to the dealer ?

RE: Clunking noise till warmed up
So, have taken it to a local independant mechanic shop.
They have ruled out AC compressor, belt, pullys, tensioners, alternator, power steering pump & water pump, because with the belt off, it still makes the noise, & it is more noticable when shifitng into gear, so it appears to be happening when any load change is applied to the engine.
It still goes away after a few minuites after warming up.
They are thinking possibly something with the tranny/torque converter or crankshaft bearings?
Since it recently had tranny filter changed & new fluid, could it be as simple as wrong tranny fluid, being overfilled, or filter not put in correctly?
Will find out more from the shop today.
Please, if anyone hasa comment or opinion, it would be most appreciated.

hey tech sounds like they forgot to put the little "L" shaped on right or not at all.that if your van has a 3 speed trans.and as jat said the flywheel might be cracked, ive seen it before.have your mechanic pull the inspection cover on trans.off and look up where the flywheel bolts to the crankshaft for any signs of rust.thats a tell tail sign.also check that tie rod end again ,,let me know moe
