It is a reddish brown. When my rear heater lines went and it was leaking the first thing I thought it was because of the color was tranny fluid. They look that close.

what do you need that for?

engine coolant can come in couple of colours. it can be blue, green, red, yellow, white..
usualy, the difference is in chemistry, so that the same colors can mix.

if your coolant is that contaminated that you can not determin it's colour, change it. it should be changed every 2 years anyway and this indicates that it's time for it to go out of the engine.

Reason for knowing the color is I have to add distilled water or coolant and since I cannot see the color just wanted to add the right type of coolant.

You need HOAT coolant. The Mopar branded stuff is red in color. Zerex sell a version of it that is clear. You can't reall go by color any more. To make matters worse Prestone sells an OAT (not HOAT) coolant that is greenish yellow and that they market as "all makes and models". The stuff does not meet Chrysler's standards, so it should be avoided.

"HOAT" stands for Hybrid Organic Acid Technology and refers to the anti-corosion package.
