Engine Dies

Engine Dies
I have a 04 Anniversary Edition Van, and when I fill up with gas, the engine revs go up when at idle then the engine dies. Its also happened when I was driving, and I lost complete Power steering, and brakes, but thats only happened once. My engine still want to die when I fill up, and I've had it serviced by chrysler and they said it was carbon build up on my injectors, they cleaned my injectors but that didn't fix the problem, I've also cleaned my injectors, but I think its something else. Any suggestion, also I haven't been getting any check engine lights or anything.

RE: Engine Dies
If you fill up your tank with the engine running, you may cause a MIL or if your EVAP system is set up to pressurize / vaccuumyour tank for OBDII testing, this might be causing your problem....
OBDII requires different responses from the monitoring sensors, depending on the year. PCM is looking for .040 size leak in one year, .020 size leak in others, in some, doesn't care. In your year vehicle, it cares!
EVAP system holds tank vent gases and if not done properly, can vaccuum your tank flat. Be aware that the solenoids allow engine vac to draw vapors into the engine after an off cycle and a certain outside temp is met. PCM goes into test mode to check for leaks by creating small vac and then times how long it takes to reach atmospheric pressure (uses MAP and pressure sensor in the tank to compare).
As such, you may have a vaccuum leak that is being caused by a stuck solenoid allowing addtional air to be drawn into the intake and resulting in your increased engine speed, especially since this is after you have stopped your vehicle for a short time. Your off cycle may be causing your problem.....

This was solved for me by the dealer since it was under warrenty. They told me that it was a defective vent in the fuel tank that caused a vacuum leak and the only way to repair it was to replace replace the fuel tank. Knock on wood, it's been fine ever since.Link to thread follows:http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...5&t=757601

RE: Engine Dies
we had it checked by the dealer when it first happened, and they just said it was the injectors, but I'm going to guess and say that your right.... my van is out of warranty, I'm over the 75000 mile warranty by 10000... Were probably going to trade it in this year and get a new one anyways.... Thanks!

To "I wonder":
Not to sound obnoxious, but could you copy and then paste your question into a new thread (and then delete your post here)? We should try and keep this one on topic and not run off in a different direction. Your issues definitely need a new thread because of the LP fueling, as well as the other issues.
I'm sure more folks would find your topic and be able to provide assistance as well....
I hope you don't mind....
