Default Gates Timing Belt for Voyager 2.5 CRD Diesel

I live in Spain and have a 2007 Voyager with the 2.5 CRD Diesel engine (same engine the diesel Jeep Liberty had). I have bought a Gates Powergrip Timing Belt kit that containes timing belt, two idler pulleys and belt tensioner pulley.

Mechanic at the dealeship said I should use original parts.

My question is does anyone have experience, good or bad, using the after market Gates Powergrip kit?

Thanks.

My Voyager had a goodyear belt fitted from new.....I replaced it with a goodyear belt and idler pulleys from the dealer.

I don't know anything about gates stuff.....I'd imagine the belt is fine....the different brands of belts are much of a muchness in my opinion. I'd be more concerned by the idler pulleys and tensioner. On a post 2006 van the interval is 100,000 miles or 8 years, so the hardware has to last a while.....i'd prefer dealer parts.

in the uk,u have dayco, connitech, goodyear and fai, list goes on,those belts are all good for motorway miles,,but the gates is a far better made belt, more durable and the best option for short journeys, will do a good 30,000 miles more than its counter part.,plus they machine the the teeth on the belt so it glides round the sprockets and pulleys making the belt almost silent.

plus the goodyear belts are half the price of gates, but u get what u pay for.

Thank you for your answers. Pestilence I believe the dealer here gets vans in that change the belt without changing idler pulleys and tensioner. I can´t explain it any other way for Gates has always been tops in my book.

And yes those idler pulleys are lefty-tighty instead of lefty loosy.

thanks again.
