Default Gear change problems

I really put the old girl through its paces yesterday and drove the car for almost 600miles to find there were problems with the autobox selecting gears.

This happened about 200miles into the journey. For some reason it wouldnt change up gear and would rev its nuts off at about 60mph. I had to switch the engine off for a few minutes before restarting. I then put it reverse before taking up forward drive. It would then see fine even though I didnt want to give it too much of a hard time.

Checked transmission level and it all seemed fine.

Any ideas anyone

What year and how many miles?
Mine did about the same and a transmission oil+filter change and a new transmission solenoid pack sorted that out. Do you have oil leaks around your transmission solenoid pack?
