Unhappy Grnd voyager Caravan 2005 2.8crd- Heater not heating

Hi,

My heater is only blowing cold or very low temperature air.
I am able to vary the spead of the fan fine . The heater only produces very little heat when set to the highest temperature. I am not getting any hot air into the cabin.
As the fan is working fine then i dont think it will be the resistor??
Is there someone who could assist. Your help will be greatley appreciated

Thanks

It could be the engine thermostat. What temperature is the engine getting up to on the guage?

Locate the 2 hoses in the engine compartment that go the the heater core. Both hoses should be hot to the touch with the engine warmed up.

If they are both hot, the coolant is circulating through the heater core properly, It may now be an issue that the HVAC blend door is not moving as it should, When you move the temp control are you able to hear the blend door moving? I believe there is a procedure to reset/re-calibrate the HVAC doors and control but I am not aware if what it may be. The reset will cycle the mode door from floor to windshield and cycle the blend door hot to cold so you would be able to determine if the blend door is working as it should (the engine should be warm so you can feel the difference in air temperature). If the blend door is not moving, the actuator motor may be bad and would need to be replaced.

If both hoses are not hot to the touch, the heater core may be partially clogged and may either need to be flushed or replaced.

My thinking is it may be the blend door actuator not working as it is a common problem.

Welcome aboard,

Simple question. Have you checked the water level in the expansion bottle?

@WR28CRD It would help if we knew what country you are in. Are you in a cold climate?

Hi AlanC,

I am in the UK.

I have checked the pipes and they are not really hot to the touch. I would say warm

I have also managed to do the do the HVAC check and things appear to be working.

regards

At this time of year, in the UK, the diesel engines struggle to get hot enough to warm the cabin. Often the thermostat is stuck open but it's a pig to replace. There is a mod to cut into the top hose and fit a thermostat off a Peugot or similar (search this forum) or alternatively blank off the radiator with a piece of cardboard or old carpet.

Thanks Alan.
My journey is 70miles one way on a motorway so i would have thought the engine should reach a good temp and there is enough time for the heater to be effective,

Ill look at trying the mod but before i do anything i wanted to be able to narrow down the issue. Do you think it is the thermostat and thats why pipes are not getting too hot to the heater?

regards
