I want to install a simple USB reader...but I find electronics difficult

I can't seem to get any power for my new stereo whichever way I connect. Will it really help then to buy an adapter? such as these:

The power cables (called feed connector) for the old one says:
BAT
ACC
ILL
PARK
RF-
AF-
MUTE

 

how did u wire it up to start with? There are adaptors that where u dont cut the factory harness and it just plugs into the factory set up is this what U did or did u cure the wires the factory plugs?
