noise from front

noise from front
hi all new to this kind of thing.
I am from liverpool england and just recently aquired my grand voayager 3.3lL auto.
When it is ticking over and driving i am getting a noise from the front like that of when you put liquid in a glass and make a noise by rubbing your finger around the rim.
any ideas?
also my steering seams stiff at time.
