Power Door Lock Question
Have a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country LX. Several months ago the front passenger lock just stopped working even though all of the other doors lock and unlock and the switch on the front passenger door locks and unlocks all of the other doors. This seems to be the only electrical problem I am having. When this first happened, I took it to our local mechanic since I figured it was the lock actuator. He tested the actuator with an external power and ground and found that it worked. He didn't spend much time on it after that but told us it was either a damaged wire in the wiring harness or a faulty Body Control Module.
I then took it to a person that specializes in electronics on cars and he said the actuator was good and there wasn't any evidence of a broken wire in the door jam but that the one wire was picking up a different polarity than it should. He said that he could connect that wire to the working locks but that it might eventually overload the working locks and all of them might stop working. So we decided against that. He thinks it is the IPM that may need replaced.
So, would it be better to get the Body Control Module replaced or the IPM replaced? Either way, we are going to wait to see if other things start to go wrong first. Also, any thoughts on possibly hooking the non working door lock up to the working ones, or would that overload the system at some point? Thanks for any help.
