Default Power Window - Switch or Motor, or both

Preparing to replace power window motor #3 on the driver's side of our 2001 T&C. Got to thinking maybe it's the switch and not the motor. After replacing the motor all works fine for about a year and then the window will go down and come back up a little then stop and after you wait a few minutes it may come up the rest of the way. As time goes by it won't come up at all unless you pull on the window and after it gets started it will close all the way. Is it motor, or switch or both?

It's probably the regulator. You could try replacing the entire regulator/motor assembly and see if you get better results.I found an aftermarket one made by Dorman for sale on Rockauto.com. It is inexpensive and has been working well for about 4 or 5 months now. It is slightly slower raising the window than the OEM unit, but it far less expensive.

I found the motor to be pretty simple to replace, but is the regulator any problems? I'll take any tips or suggestions form anyone who has done this type of replacement. Thanks

I would say it's a pretty easy job to do. I think the Dorman unit came with an instruction sheet, but I had already read through the procedure in the factory service manual, so I didn't really look at that. If you can swap out the motor though, doing the regulator should be easy. You just tape the window in the up position with duct tape so it doesn't fall when you disconnect everything, you disconnect the motor from the door and then take out the four bolts that hold the regulator to the door, unclip the window mounts, work the regulator out of the door and then put the new one in. It doesn't require any special tools, unless you consider the torx driver for the motor mount to be "special".

The "regulator" consists of the slides that the window goes up and down on, the cables and the motor.
