Default Programming new key

I bought a key blank off Ebay. I cant find anyone to cut and program it. I only have one key now. A hardware store near me can make a program a key without the buttons. My question is if I have them make me a new key and program it, and I can find someone to cut my blank will I be able to program it since I will have two working keys? I wasnt sure since my second key will not be from the dealer. Thanks for all the help.
