Default Removing steering wheel

My directional arm won't return to offafter a turn. I want to fix it, but a friend told me not to try taking the wheel off. Is the air bag assy that sensitive? Is there something I should know before goin' in?
I am good mechanically (have replaced alternator, plugs, wires, brakes) and have Haynes Manual.

Thanks in advance for the help!

u dont need to take off the wheel for a multi function switch. The wheel only comes off for the air bag clock spring.
