Rough Idle w/ Small (.020 mill) Evap Leak or miss codes
Alright folks, wife drives a 2006 Town & Country 3.8 with almost 200,000 on it. Such a clunker for us, but plan on scrapping it soon. but until then we have to get it running for her. Anyhow, the current issue is we have the engine at idle pretty rough, around 700-900 rpms on scanner, and with the codes pulled are a Cylinder 1 Miss fire and Small EVAP Leak (less than .020 mill). While idling is rough drives rough at start but as revs get higher in the 2,000 it does better, but if I let the revs drop between 1500 and 2000 front end shudder, so i've had her drive it in 3 instead of D to keep them up. So as far as the leaks go, I'm pretty sure a gas cap won't cause these seriously rough conditions, have checked the Proportioning Solenoid and vac checked it and held didn't have leak, and the circuit leading to the engine didn't have any leaks, so did a thorough check on the full evap system and found two hoses on the vapor canister we rotted but could hear or see any leaks, then checked the PCV to see if it was stuck open or leaking pipe, found a good size 1" long about two finger nails width hole/crack on it. Sealed that and any other holes on the pipe and replaced PCV just for good measure and still same thing, but now not leaking from there cause before I could feel the his from it at the neck. Next, when thinking I was hearing the PCV at Intake leaking put hand on IAC and sound went away. Could the IAC cause any of the issues I'm experiencing? Also I have ordered the new hoses for the EVAP Canister and also plan to do another Plugs and Wires soon, but did replace the coil pack again on this turd, second time in 3-4 years. Any tips besides my wifes taking a match to it?
Ok Guys, first dunce cap of the year for me. Replaced the IAC and it made it run way worse. But hissing was gone from that location. So, I just say screw it and change the plugs, here's my number 1 plug, yeah i'd say there's some fuel or oil on there. might actually do either a injector replacement or valve stems soon. Runs tons better than before. Put in Quadruple Iridium plugs just for good measure.
