If you're in the %hit for a read & clear gimme a shout here in the threads, note, I don't do PM's. Yeh I had free access to 3 of the top snap-on's and none would read the codes properly. I too, like you, went to Alexanders of Teesside in desperation for a read and quickly decided I could buy my own almost as good reader for the cost of three visits to Alexanders - so I did. Anecdotally the clean new ATF+4® scores very high on the 'fix-o-meter', mindlessly chaotic and apparently unrelated problems disappear when a now functioning gearbox has life breathed into it with new fluid. Well everything has been fine until a few days ago when it reared it ugly head again. I was in Dewsbury town centre when suddenly the engine reved and found myself back in limp mode. Called the RAC out and he did a read and came back with codes for solenoid pack and input and output sensors. Gah
However, cleared the codes and disconnected the battery for a minute, after which it ran fine all the way home. So this week its been fine again, trans shifting as it should until yesterday and off it went again. Stuck in second gear in limp home mode. So I'm biting the bullet and have ordered a new solenoid pack and sensors.

Sorry to hear that Vonhofinvule, if you mean the tickover went from 900 to 1200 [ish] yes it does do that. Assuming you are 41TE there's a lad here that did his own service with a parts pack on the solenoid and the sensors, but as you will see its a bit of a beggar as a DIY job. Best of luck.

Well I had thought about a service kit however, I'm back in the states for a while and over here its just as cheep to buy a new solenoid pack and sensors, and anything else I can fit in my luggage! hahaha

Well just been through a heat index of 107f with 97% humidity so you may want to rethink that. hahaha. But a little ac and all is good. Also found a few other bits for the old GV so they'll be heading home with me

Well its the cold that gets me and its something I'm very familiure with in Consett, hahaha. Although seeing way too much to bring home. Went to an autojumble this weekend and got my eye on a cool set of chrome bumpers and side steps.
The front was a double chrome tube setup with built in nudge bar, the rears were the same except they had the top tube cut in the center for a step. Side steps were single tube with rubber foot grips. The units completely replaced the plastic bumpers and internal impact bar. Couldn't get them home at such short notice. Would have looked great on the old gal though and only $150.

Shift solenoid pack and sensor update!
Well finally have fitted the new solenoid pack and sensors and boy, what a difference. The old gal is shifting up and down the gears like never before. Changes are quick and precise and kick-down is much quicker! But one other benefit, driving around this past week is a marked improvement in fuel economy. On average around town 3mpg and almost 4mpg on the motorway! which equates to around 19 and 25mpg respectively. Although I'm seeing even more on the LPG/Propane. From a local price standpoint it equates to around 52 miles to the equivalent gallon of Diesel.
However, along with the improved shifting I am noticing the torque converter is now locking up at around 45 to 50, something I hadn't noticed beforehand, which in turn sees a drop in RPM. So well worth the £70 ish investment and a little effort.
Overall fitting was easy, took less than and hour on my drive and didn't require any specialist tool or knowledge!
