Default Small lag after turning the key

I am still trying to get the "feel" of my 2008 Town and Country. I appreciate that answers to my questions you guys are providing.

When I turn the key to start my car, there is about a 1 second lag before the starter turns over the engine. Is this because the van is reading the security code first before it will start and the lag is normal?
