My key is in the ignition but it's not turning over at all....
I was trying to start my 2001 T@C and I had put the key In the ignition and It Is not turning over,It seems like It's jam or It's some safety lock that's on. The car will not start because of the damn ignition that Is not turning over.

Hi, I know this may sound obvious but have you moved the steering wheel side to side whilst turning the key? Sometimes, especially if the front tyre is wedged up against the kerb it puts pressure on the steering lock mechanism stopping you from turning the key!
Hope this helps.

There is a problem with some of the Chrysler lock cylinders, haven't done it myself but a slap to the key with a hammer is supposed to free the key up so it will turn. (DON'T do it until you SEARCH for the proper method!!!)

Or, if the key turns but the starter doesn't engage, it could be the immobilizer chip in the key.
First, separate the key from any other keys on the fob. If it starts then, another car key may have been over-riding your key's "signal".
If no joy, try a second key in your ignition.
Good luck!

I have tried to turn the wheel left and right hoping It would free up,but no luck still stuck.
I was told that the lock cylinder was engaged and the dealer can only do something about It. Is there any tricks as someone mentioned here something with a hammer.

I just fixed mine by using wd-40. I used the straw that comes with it and shot some oil into the cylinder then, I put the key in and tapped the back end of the key with a hammer. Don't tap it too hard just enouph to push it in a little. Then try turning it, it should free the cylinder. It seems that they get dirt and makes it not want to turn. Good luck!

How much weight is on the key ring? Too many keys/key chainsfor along time will wear away at the tumblers in the cylinder, causing a misalignment of the tumblers, and a worn key. I would keep wiggling, or possibly try another key if you are able to get the current keyout. Sometimes a "newer" key will work, and if that's the problem... ouch.
