Hi
My 1997 Voyager 2.0LE manual has a problem starting this but the red light stays on all the time, the ignition key lights up the dashboard but does nothing in the start position. The alarm set light flashes a few times and then stays off. Any clues anybody.

Does the gauges work and mileage come up in the display and does the key fobs still work the locks?

 

yes they all do!

 

Does your alarm have starter disable? Maybe it is malfunctioning. What the alarm light nromally do when it starts?

And this is a manual? I imagine there is a switch wired into the clutch pedal. Maybe the switch is bad.

Has the starter ever been changed? How old is the battery?

 

where do you live? is it a UK vehicle?

 

I would still check the 21 pin plug on the heater panel for melting just to rule it out.

 

Mr fixit:The starter was ok, new battery. Key fob works the doors all instrument lights come on, the alarm light comes on for 2 -3 secs and then goes off.

Merlin: Yes it is a uk vehicle. I have checked 21pin seems ok no melting. When I turn the key it makes a slight noise electrical i think but the starter doesn't engage.

P.S. What does the switch on the clutch pedal do? Where is it located?

 

Not sure where is it located because here in the US we have mostly all automatics. On others Like my old Toyata 4x4 , it is somehow affixed to the clutch pedal linkage. This was a cylinder type switch with 2 wires going in it (to complete the circuit when you depress the clutch). I am not sure if Chrysler does it the same way or not. But if you find one, and it has only 2 wires going to it, you could probably short them some how to rule that switch out.

your alarm is a may and scofield alarm the US one taken out at port, this alarm unit has a starter cut out built in. But as said you will have a clutch switch on the pedal. You could by pass the start relay in the fuse box and see if it starts. If it starts but then cuts out then it sounds like a alarm fault.
