Default starting problems

hi, please could anyone help with this i have a 2002 grand voyager 2.5
CRD turbo, the problem i if it is left overnight and i go to it in the morning it stats but if i stop the engine it will not start again for a few hours, i have notice the fuel pump is making a funny noise and seems to be running a little long i think, should it only run for a few seconds and stop ? but if it is the pump why does it start when left? i thought it would not start at all..

Does the pump prime when you can’t start it? Or is it only noisy when it does start? From what you are saying it does sound like the pump is bad.
