Default Strange fuel pump problem

The other morning it was cool and damp and when I started my 99 Gran Caravan I did not hold the key in start long enough. As soon as it hit I let go and it died. It would not start after that.

I disconnected the battery for about 30 seconds hoping for a reset but that did not help.

I found out that the relay was not closing because the computer was not pulling it's side of the coil low (the other side has the 12v). So with the relay out I jumpered 12v to the relay output slot in the socket and the pump comes on. Then I start the engine and it runs fine. Next I turn it off and replace the relay. It has started ever since.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this behavior. Glad I did not install the new pump and filter...

thanks,
jh

Ford and GM use them to shut off fuel in the event of an accident. What does Chrysler use?

Chrysler Tech - Just an info question. Some Dodge models use a roll over valve. Do the Caravans have one?

I dont think so because the fuel wont come out of the tank even if its upside down there might be one way check valves in the pumps have not taken one apart to even see.
