Trans cover/fluid
I have a 2002 Town/Country that has developed a leak around the side or end cover seal of the transmission (faces the drivers side of the van). Two questions: What type of transmission fluid should I be using to top this off? Should this side cover be easy enough to remove, re-gasket, and replace myself? Thanks for any advice.
Your tranny uses ATF+4, which is available at the $tealer or from the box auto parts stores by other makers. DO NOT USE ANYTHING BUT THIS FLUID.
I haven't removed that cover so I can't answer the second question. I think I read a thread that someone had done it, and it was tight, but do-able.
You might check a manual.

Thanks for the info. I knew there could be problems if I used the wrong fluid, but wasn't totally sure what the right fluid was. Hopefully I can trust the stuff sold at the auto parts stores. I'll research the cover a little more before I try it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
The side cover is easy, and relatively inexpensive at the dealer. You need a special ATF rtv type sealer to seal the cover to the transmission case. I higly recommend Chrysler sealer as this area is prone to leaks. I wouldn't use the permatex crap sold at the auto parts stores.
