Default Need guidance on when to change Trans Fluid

Howdy,

According to the owners manual, schedule "B" regarding transmission fluid change:

Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid and change main suimp filter and spin-on cooler return filter if equipped. This appplies only if your vehicle is used for police, taxi, fleet, or frequent trailer towing.

According to this direction, one would NEVER need to change the transmission fluid. I found this a little odd, given the fact that Chrylser doesn't have a great reputation with transmissions. I, of course, do not use the vehicle in any of the described endeavors, but we do drive about 25-30K/year and now have 140,000 miles on the car. Do I need to change the transmissin fluid. If yes, is dropping the pan and refilling adequate? Or should I go to the dealer for a complete fluid change? I assume they can use a machine of some sort to get a complete exchange of fluid.

We intend to drive the car for several more years. thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

On my 2008, the service schedule in the owner's manual calls for replacement of the automatic transmission fluid and filter at 120k, so you're overdue.

Does your Owners Manual have the conditional language about police or taxi use, like mine does.

Personally, if I had the vehicle I'd at least do a drain & filter change.
Maybe not a full flush, but it just never hurts to freshen up things a bit.

Yes - 60k replacement if extensive idling, dusty conditions, towing, etc.
