Default Updating my Voyager

Hi, i am looking to change my voyager 1998 petrol for a diesel aprox 2004 model 2.5 diesel.
When i first started looking 2 yrs ago for a voyager everybody said the diesel engine wasa always a problem.
Is this the case with the later models?
as i understand it they were a Alfa Romeo diesel, Is it now a safe bet to buy one.
i live in Bulgaria so any small problems are a nightmare so any engine problems would be catastrophic.
love the car ,
Any help please

Your 98 will be more reliable. The diesel auto 2004 you could suffer from gearbox problems, battery problems, fuel / injector problem/ suspension problems/ parking brake problems and oil leak problems (rear main and oil coolers). All can be fixed but it if you have problem getting parts it could be an issue. The engine however is a good engine.
