What is the purpose of bleeding the timing belt tensioner when installing a new timing belt?

The reason I ask is because I dont have anything strong enough to hold the tensioner down after I bleed it. I bleed it in the vice for five minutes, like the service manual says, and then stick a pin in there. I have tried using screws and drill bits as pins, but every time, the tensioner bends the pin slightly, and pops out a little bit. I was wondering if it was okay to just re-install the tensioner and pull the pin.

 

the tensonier from the dealer comes with a pin.try using slightly longer bolts to walk it in .they wont bottom out as you can see there really nothing on the inside to stop ya.i've done it before.just go slow once youv'e got the tensonier in place remove on bolt at a time and replace with original good luck moe......you can do it!
