Default 2.0L Cam position target magnet protruding?

The target magnet on this 1999 Dodge Neon protrudes about an eighth of an inch. The old cam sensor unit has a recess and it fit over it. Any new OEM sensors don't have the recess and will not fit flush against the block because of this protrusion. What is my solution? Any ideas?

On every cam sensor I have ever installed when new was a thin piece of cardboard that you left on when installing it. it was there to make sure the cam was installed with the proper clearance.
Without that cardboard, the sensor could be installed and go in to far.
Did you leave the cardboard spacer on when installing it?

I have since figured out the protrusion is not the magnet but part of the head, which is apparently not the usual for this motor. The protrusion is about 1/8 in or more so a thin strip of cardboard would not begin to fill the gap. I am attaching a picture of the old and new sensor with the old one in the front.... look at the recess...
