Check Engine Code 17
Hey Everybody. I have a 1996 Chrysler Concorde LXi (3.5 liter). The check engine light is on and I checked the codes today (with the key on, off, on, off, on). The first code was a 12 which I believe is just a battery connection issue (no biggie). The 2nd/last code that came up was 17. Can anybody tell me what this is? I've done quite a bit of searching, but can't seem to find an OBDII code list. Thanks!!
According to my Haynes manual, #12 battery was disconnected, and #17 /p1281, engine running too cool. You are going to need a scanner to clear that code when you correct the problem. Disconnecting the battery will not clear it, like the older cars.
I believe you can borrow a scanner from advance auto or autozone, or buy one fairly reasonable. Mine was $80.00 ten years ago. It came with the list of codes, and it's for anyobdII vehicle. It's paid for itself many times over. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. When I opened the hood, I noticed there was quite a bit of corrosion on the battery so I disconnected it and cleaned all of that off. When I connected it back up and started it, the CEL was off and it hasn't turned back on since. I guess my car fixes itself
Thanks for the info though and I'll keep an eye on it.
