engine cuts out when lights are switched on
Hi
I have a 2008 2.8 diesel Voyager
The strange problem with the car is that when I switch on the lights , the dials goes off , followed by engine cutting off
When I am driving along and turn the lights on , the same happens .
I have no problem re starting it
I am loss as to where the problem may be
Thanking you all in anticipation

Have you done any work to the vehicle about the time that it started happening?
I had a friend once, who wired a CB radio into his car. One night I saw him he was ripping it out, because every time he turned on his headlights, the radio stopped working.
It turned out that he used the positive wire for the headlights as a ground. When the lights were off, the wire acted as a ground, but when he turned them on, the wire was positive.
That being said, check the wiring. it sounds very much like a short circuit in the wiring involving the headlights.
Does it do it when you put just your parking lights on, too? Or it has to be the actual headlights?
That could narrow down your search.

Hi , Thanks for the info
No work has been done recently
The first click of the light switch ( parking light ) will dim the instrument panels but not cut the engine off . However when the main lights are on it will cut the engine off
I have also notice that when instruments are down there is also radio interference from the speaker

It could also be a bad battery, or failing alternator.
Do you gave a volt meter? If so with the engine running test the voltage output by connecting the volt meter to the positive and negative terminals.
Try turning on the ac, and radio and see if that makes it stutter or shut down.
Does that make the voltage drop even lower?
About 14,5 is considered normal
If the voltage is below 14, have the battery tested, if the battery is ok, then you need a new alternator.
If the voltage is down closer to, or below 12 volts, the alternator is dead.

Hi
HAd the alternator check and producing plenty of amps and voltage is over 14v
It seems to be insufficient current to power both the lights and the engine at the same time .. There's got to be a common block connector or relay but where ?
If only I have a wiring diagram

This should help with that.
