Default need help?

Can anyonetell me how to make the crankshaft position sensor work on the 2003 pt cruiser 2.4 liter N/A I installed in a 2002 2.4L N/A pt cruiser? I was told when I purchased the engine it would work but obviously it wont. On the 03 model it is on the opposite side in the rear. I rerouted the wiring harness to the sensor, but I am assuming it is reading 180 degrees off, because when I try to start it it backfires like it is out of time. I checked the camshafts in relation to the crankshaft and they are right on. Hopefully there is a way to remedy this short of taking the motor out again. I searched for the answer on this site and others and have not found what can be done. Can the gear be rotated on the crankshaft or would the 2003 crank have the 2002 trigger on it also so I could install the 2002 crank sensor in its original position on the 2003 block? Is there anyone who can reprogram the PCM to use the 2003 crank signal. Thanks in advance for any help!
