Default larger tires

I have a 2003 Town and country LXI that uses 215 65R 16 tires. I am interested in installing bigger tires to the van as well as improve the suspension. Can I fit 230 75R 16 tires on the van? What kind of changes can I do to the suspension in order to improve the ride and clearance to the van? Any suggestions and opinions will be appreciated. We are planning a cross country trip to alaska on it.

Front wheel drive vehicles have very little extra clearance in the wheel wells. Oversized tires stand a very good chance of rubbing on something under there at the extremes of steering and suspension travel. The previous owner of my Sebring had mis-installed a splash shield where it protruded a half-inch further into the wheel well. The tire rubbed a hole right through it. You can go to on-line tire stores such as tirerack.com and look up your vehicle to see what size tires will fit.

As far as suspension modifications, I don't think you'll find much out there for a minivan. That sort of thing is more likely to be found for a pickup truck or a performance vehicle, but good luck.
