Unhappy New member with 1990 New Yorker headlight problems

Hi everyone. My name is Greg and I just joined this forum. I have a question and I hope this site can help. I own a 1990 new Yorker Landau. The headlight covers which are supposed to open and close upon turning the headlight on or off are not working every time. Sometimes they work and other times they don't. Can anybody give me any info as to what I can do to fix it? Is there something I can try to see if it fixes the problem? Also I tried to search this stuff online and I don't know exactly what they're called. Are they headlight doors, covers, lids, actuators...? I would appreciate it if anyone can give me any assistance. Thank you. p.s. the lights work fine. it's the covers that are not working.

It could possibly be a head lamp switch or motor may beginning to fail, either way you will be spending money for either part. You might consider disconnecting the motor while the head lamps are on to save that money and you will most likely have brighter lighting at night time since cars with headlamp doors rarely have clean headlamps.
