Question static on 430 radio

Just purchased a 2014 Hardtop convertible from a private party; now finding static(especially am) and No nav on radio (430N).
Any suggestions would be appreciated; Thanks.
just graduated from a 5 year affair with a 2001 Sebring convertible.

Not that familiar with the HT conv. Does it have a "shark fin" blade type antenna? I've heard of these types having connection problems in the base of the antenna unit. That can give static on AM and weak FM reception.

And I thought I was behind the times! The type antenna... old style rod or power retractable antenna OR a short plastic blade type(normally used for XM capable audio) antenna.

Does your radio have nav ? Also a short rod also may be a type of amplified antenna (much like the "shark fin" plastic housing one) and still could be bad at coax connection to it.
