Saw a commercial where they wrecked a VW and were bragging about how when there is a crash the hazards come on the door locks unlock..etc. This is not new. Actually it's at least 10 years old on the domestic front. There are other countless examples of this.

Actually, much more than that...... Ford Incorporated Door unlock with the Inertia switch in the mid 1980s.
