Angry Powertrain Warranty

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I bought from a local dealership here in Wisconsin that is having engine issues and Chrysler and the dealership won't honor the powertrain warranty sold with every Jeep. The Jeep has only been worked on by the dealership and its completely stock. The Jeep has 53,000 miles on it.

It turns out that the jeep was originally from Canada (we are close to the border) and because of this, the jeep is no longer in warranty. So I called Canadas Chrysler hotline, and they said the car is still under warranty. it turns out the Canadian Power train warranty is to 100,000 kilometers and instead of 100,000 miles. no Problem, because my jeep falls under either. I asked if i could drive it there to have it fixed, and they said no. The work has to be done in America because that's where the car is registered. I called back to the American Chrysler/Jeep dealership and they told them that it indeed does have a warranty, but it's through Chrystler Canda. They are still unwilling to honor it. They cant (don't want to) use the warranty from Canada. Long story short, Chrysler won't honor the powertrain warranty and now they expect that I should cover the bill for a car they guaranteed for 100,000 miles/km with under 60,000 miles on it. Ive read alot on these Forums and trust the people that are saying buy a different vehicle, they dont stand by their product and will leave you with the bill even if its "under Warranty"

Try a different dealer IM wondering how you got it from Canada in the first place there must be alot of stuff that needs t happen to get from one country to the other. as for the warranty its not Chryslers issue unfortunately its the dealers that can or not deal with the mess of trans country warranty

I would strongly disagree that this isn't a Chrystler issue. They built the car and give a factory powertrain warranty on their product . . , they won't honor what they sold (and are currently selling). I've called Chrystler both US and Canada, but they are unwilling to help me. American manufactures used to stand by their product. Now they just make empty promises when selling. After going back and forth with Chrysler I decide to bring this to an independent mechanic to get a quote without giving him the background because, honestly, I didn't want to sound like a whiney . . . He came back and said to bring it to the dealer its under warranty. I told him a brief version of the story and he didn't believe me and said I'm under the milage and there's even a service bulletin stating it's a known issue with this model of jeep. He called the local dealership and was shocked! He gave me the idea to go on every Car forum I could find and start posting the situation, maybe someone there will be able to help. This is only my third forum, but it's my nights and weekends gig until either I get a resolution, or my fingers start to bleed. The car is still not fixed, so I really don't have anything to lose. Plus, I get to tell other people that might be looking at purchasing one of these to run as fast as they can in the other direction. I don't want other people to have the same experience. . . it's not fun.

Please see the FACTORY WANINTY linked below. and a couple of quotes from that page for anyone who is fallowing so they understand what is sold vs what Chrysler actually does.

"This Warranty follows the vehicle and covers all owners"
"The powertrain warranty covers the costs of parts and labor for the following repairs. Firstly, the engine"
. . this continues to cover more but my issue is the engine.

What is the year of your Grand Cherokee and what is the nature of the issue you are having?

Unfortunately you are dealing with 2 separate companies, Chrysler/FCA USA and Chrysler/FCA Canada. Both sell Grand Cherokess produced on the same assembly line but that is where the similarity ends.

Good luck.

Thanks ggoose! Thee Jeep is a 2021, and it was bought locally at the dealership here in the US. Not sure on the process they took to get it into the US or how it ended up here. I was told it was a lease buy back.

The dealership said it's an issue with a lifter and camshaft. I'm not a mechanic, but it's an issue with the engine, a real kick in the pants for a car that has less than 60,000 miles on it and everything I read tells me it should be covered. I even offered to tow it to Canada to get it fixed, but that was rejected as well.

I'll say this, there are so many people out there that are very kind, both on these forums and at Chrysler. I get that I'm in a weird situation, but I still feel there should be a solution. It makes no sense that the car isn't covered by the factory warranty.

A truly incredible situation. Would love to hear what JeepCares has to say about this situation. Have you posted to the Jeep boards concerning this? What motor does your Grand Cherokee have?

It appears that JeepCares is well connected to the Jeep Forums.
