Default 70's Voltage regulator ???

I was told that a 70's type Chrysler voltage regulator is ideal for my RV motorhome to properly keep the auxilary batteries from overcharging. For some reason there is no regulator in the system. My question is which terminal on the regulator goes to the battery and which one goes to the source?
