This is for bypassing a 2.8 CRD so the dimensions wont help you, but get a straight edge rule to try and determine if the belt will miss all the obstacles. As for the length I had to have 3 guesses it was alway shorter than I thought, hope this helps.

Default Seized compressor bypass serpentine belt petrol

My aircon compressor seized this week whilst my Wife was driving...panicky phone call saying smoke was pouring out from the bonnet/hood and will not run. I feared the worst.

By the time I got there the smoke was gone, but not the ghastly smell. Engine would barely crank and failed to start, so used jump leads to see if I could duplicate the problem (fire extinguisher in hand). Cranked slow and then engine fired up with an awful screech....belt noise. Cut the belt and crept 2 miles home with no water pump, no alternator, and worst of all no power steering. By hand it felt like the AC pulley was seized. I needed the van quickly for my Daughter's 16th birthday, so a quick fix required. THE CHRYSLER FORUM TO THE RESCUE!

A big thanks to GEORGEF who makes an excellent post above. Using his accurate and complete advice I got a smaller serpentine belt (US 79" equals EU 2005 mm so Gates K060790 = Gates PK062005) and bypassed the aircon pulley. On my petrol 3.3 2005 the back of the belt just touched the aircon pulley - ran fine with no noise or heat, but I then decided to remove the aircon compressor just in case, as I shall have to replace that eventually. Back on the road.

PS: the tensioner on this vehicle has a 1/2" female square drive in just the wrong place, so instead used the 3/4" square male dog on the bottom with a 12" adjustable wrench...by chance a 12" adjustable will rotate the tensioner and can be wedged against the aircon pulley leaving you one hand free to fit the belt - thanks also to this forum for suggesting the 3/4" dog on the bottom.

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to all those who post responses on this site...keep up the good work. I'll be looking for a used aircon compressor soon.

Happy Motoring.

I don't know how anyone does without A/C. Those compressors will make noise for a long time before locking up.

Hi Richard, I know it was a while ago but can you remember the length of Belt I will need to bypass the AC compressor on my Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD - 2004 vintage?

Thanks for any help, Graham

Yes, it can be bypassed using a 79.0" pitch length belt, some people say the clearance between the back of the belt and AC compressor pulley is close, while others say there is plenty of clearance.

Belts that should work:
Duralast 790K6
Gates K060790
Dayco 5060790
Napa 25060790
Goodyear 4060790

Here's a diagram of the bypass belt routing:

If you want to permanently eleminate the AC compressor, Dorman sells an AC bypass pulley (Part # 34241).

2006 Chrysler town and country 3.8L. The 790K6 belt worked excellent. Took the bad ac compressor out cuz it was too close for comfort.
