Default Cam shaft locking tool

I am replacing the head gaskets on a 2002 Concorde. I am at the point of pulling the camshaft sprokets off. Instructions say to pull the camshaft thrust plates off back and insert locking tool after bring to TDC. Is this absolutely necessary and if so, where can I find this tool. NAPA has one but it doesn't look right for the Concorde.
