Default Throttle Body Spring

I recently did some work to my 97 Concorde. Upon reassembly I forgot to put the inner spring on the driver side throttle body back on. Anyone know what the purpose of that spring is? The car has issues now idling and often dies at stoplights. Could that be the cause? And on take off it sometimes feels like its going to stall. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the throttle cable tension. I would have disassembled it again when I first did it but the car did run and I needed to use it the next day.
